I was debating about which topic could be good for this entry, I have a lot of good topics to talk about relating to the whole Takari vs Daikari thing, their digimon, crests, and so on but today reading some old Daikari fics I came across to a very old one on fanfiction.net, that fic was started in 2003 and its last update was in 2003 as well that means 6 years ago.
Anyhow, on that fic I could notice that the authress used the like digidestined like digimon thing because using that of that Kari toyed with Davis' emotions and now she was dating TK, Gatomon did the same with Veemon, this take us to the following part that is a talk between Gennai and Gatomon:

I could have sworn your last words to him were: "Get away from me you idiot. I don't care for you in any way and there's no way it'll work out between us. We're far too different and you can't even relate to me at all. I'd be better off with a stranger. And besides, I've already chosen Patamon, there was no competition on that choice. So go away and keep you distance, alright 'bluemon?'" ... Yes, very harsh indeed. So why do you want to know about him in specific? If anything, I would think you were more concerned about Daisuke's powers."
Gatomon was silent for a moment. Why am I asking? Daisuke's powers are the ones I should be asking about, not Veemon's. Do I...? Nah. My partner was right on her choice. It's Destiny...yeah that's it. Destiny.

On that fic that starts with Davis and Veemon getting new powers which for Veemon was an alternate digivolution, Davis leaved the team since the others never gave a damn about him and Veemon, supposedly Gatomon and the other digimon couldn't stand Veemon and the same went for their partners about Davis.
But look at the quote above. You really think that Gatomon could tell such harsh things to Veemon just because he likes her? I highly doubt it. Gatomon can be tough and sarcastic at times but she never would treat a fellow teammate like that.
Also Gatomon never got to know about Veemon's interest on her anyways. Not to mention that from all of the digidestined/digimon bonds, Gatomon and Kari were the ones with more different things personally wise than any of the others.
Gatomon for starters never did anything that would hurt Veemon like agreeing with Patamon about something when Veemon said anything, or flirt with him, etc.
Heck at this point Patamon was more like Kari when he made Davis almost blow up his lid on episode 7 when he told Davis that Gatomon digivolves to Angewomon and then that they're perfect for each other and yet Veemon didn't even got upset at that, he was more like confused and then shocked when Davis shook him trying to make him digivolve to some angel digimon (UltraAngemon in the japanese version)
On that note I actually liked to see Patamon like that, I mean on 01 he most times was silent and never joked or anything, so seeing him in 02 somehow more open and carefree being capable of tease the others was an interesting change on him that sure goes with how he was more proactive in 02 ^^
Now on the Kari thing. I really don't know what in this green earth the US dub did that some fans hate Kari because she supposedly toyed with Davis' emotions by agreeing with TK or flirting with him. This mostly since I'm from México and the dub here was more accurate to the original one easily in a 90-95%, so what I did saw of Kari "toying" with Davis' emotions was really nothing. Only one time she kind of ignored what Davis said to ask something to TK, it was on episode 3 after they returned to the real world after defeating the Tyrannomon.
Kari said something about he couldn't believe how the Emperor could be capable of using Digimon like that. Davis hit his palm with his fist and told Kari she was right or something along those lines, you know agreeing with her, but Kari then turned to TK and told him "Don't you think so TK?"
That was the only time Kari teased Davis, after that it was all mission related or when they were at school.
Now. for what I have seen during all my years as digimon fan, for some fans it seems that Kari never gave a damn about Davis but I can quote several times in 02 when Kari admired Davis.
Such examples are:
1. When Davis made a dash towards the generator room on Ken's base, The others just smiled and kind of admiring Davis' tenacity. I don't remember if it was TK or Yolei or Cody who said something but then Kari said. "After all, he is the captain"
2. When Arukenimon used that control spire Knightmon to break the first destiny stone, Kari and Davis were the first one in arrive to where the stone was located. Kari did sent Davis an e-mail about it, same to the others of course even if it wasn't show (only Davis' mail was shown). They also got first because they live near to each other in the same complex but different buildings so they were the fastest ones in arrive. But here is the thing, you think if Kari didn't gave a damn with Davis would have gone with him to the digiworld without the others? I doubt it, she would have said to wait for the others or something.
3. Kari and Yolei also went to Davis' house (when Ken spent the night there) to talk about BlackWarGreymon and the current situation. That shows they do respect Davis as leader and take in count his thoughts.
4. In the battle with MaloMyotismon, after everyone was back to the fight (out of the illusions) and had all the different forms of their digimon out, Kari said and I qoute. "What we would have done without Davis' faith that pushed us to fight and win?"
Those are the ones I remember, but are enough to show that Kari did respected Davis and saw it as a great friend and leader, she only teased him a bit because it was funny how he always agreed with her in everything. Like on the episode of the Roachmon sisters, when they went to the picnic, TK said they should stop to eat but Davis refused saying for them to keep going a bit more, but it was enough that Kari said she was hungry and he quickly changed his mind.
The thing in my humble view is that they think that Kari only was toying with Davis because she had him literally around her finger, but it wasn't Kari's fault neither. I mean why she has to carry with the blame when Davis was acting like that on his own just to impress her? Check the basketball match (episode 22), Davis tried to copy TK's play and failed, then in the digiworld he dragged Veemon on his plan to digivolve him to champion to impress Kari and Gatomon.
From there is why I'm not even sure that Veemon's interest on Gatomon is all on his own, mostly because he literally was repeating the same things Davis' said but aimed at Gatomon as in while Davis was thinking on how close TK and Kari are, Veemon was thinking on how close Patamon and Gatomon are.
Some say Veemon had genuine feelings for Gatomon just because of that episode but that is debatable. Veemon did had a crush on her yes, but there is a big difference between a crush and a genuine love. A crush can be simple attraction but no real love at all.
Returning to the like digidestined like digimon thing, I think the most obvious case of that were precisely Davis and Veemon, Veemon always agreed in everything Davis said, they never argued at all, both were so carefree.
While with the others some of them did passed through some conflicts with their partners. We have TK and Patamon in 01 having two arguements that got them separated for a while (the amusement park and the Myotismon vs WereGarurumon and Angemon episode when Matt was taking TK home), Tai had his issue of when Agumon digivolved to SkullGreymon, Sora had her disagreements with Biyomon, even Gabumon had to bite Matt's leg in 01 to get him out of that state when they were on that cave made of the darkness in their hearts (01 during Piedmon's arc), with Kari and Gatomon there is the difference on how their pasts were. True, Kari used to be a girl who fell ill really often but is nothing compared with being tortured leaving scars in your body which was what Gatomon went through.
So the like digidestined like digimon doesn't applies in a 100% but lots of fans doesn't think that way. From there commentaries like PataGato is tacked to Takari, Takari is destined love, and so on.
About the destiny thing, I feel it is misunderstood and not well interpreted. I mean for example if Kari falls for Davis it wasn't destiny who allowed it? I mean I know we can build our own future with our decisions but still like it or not destiny plays a role still even if it is in a indirect way.
Returning a bit to that fic here is another quote another digimon that has an alternate form told this to Gatomon when she got told by her and Veemon's alternate form that no other digimon could get that forms, Gatomon asked why and they told her to ask fate or even destiny while at it, Gatomon got angry and said that's not possible and this is the reply she got:

I want to ask, aren't Fate and Destiny the same thing? I'm aware that my knowledge of english isn't at a perfect level but what is the difference between both? I mean it is the same to say Fate wanted this to happen than say Destiny wanted this to happen, so why that fic has both as separated terms? If someone can enlight me about that I will be grateful ^^
Anyhow still and all I feel there has been so much bigger misinterprations and misunderstandings about the whole Kari toying with Davis, dragging Gatomon on the way as well the others, etc.
If it was because of how the US dub portrayed the characters then I'm really glad we didn't got that one in Mexico o.o
Also on the quotes I put I didn't gave out anything important to keep privacy for the authress, I just took the parts that got my attention to quote to use them as examples.
I will expand more de Davis and Veemon treated bad by the others on a future journal, this one was more about Hikari and Gatomon only ^^
