Hey there. Welcome to the third entry of this journal of the Patamon.

Today I want to talk you about Fanfictions. Those stories fans write based on their favorite series, characters, couples, etc.

I had been a fan of reading fics for 10 years now and I had been writing fics for 7 years now. On all my years on the fanfic world I have read all kind of fics. Some really good, some really bad and not worth wasting your time. But what gets more my attention is how in some fandoms of any show, they use the fics as ways to prove the pairings they like are the best and bash the rival character or characters those pairings have and even bash the rival pairing too.

So I want you all to be honest with me and answer this. It is really necesary use such nice hobby like it is writing fics just to keep endless wars because you think this couple is better than this other one? Portraying the characters in bad way, out of character, changing them radically, just to prove this character is the best than this other and such?

Where is the real passion in writing a fic? Where is the real unleash to the imagination and write our favorite characters going through new situations while keeping them like we saw them on the series as much as possible?

Many people doesn't get it, but in a silent way, the fics had contributted to the endless wars between couple or characters fans. And all because of the bashing, godmodding, Mary Sue, Gary Stu and all that stuff we see on them that degrades the quality of the fics.

I have seen fics that are really well writing narrating and description wise, the battles are well described and with good lenght but sadly the fic gets me down when it also has an overpowered character which on the series didn't had any power other than the normal one he or she has saving the day while his friends only watch on the sidelines. Also add that the rival of this character which on the series usually wasn't jealous in the fic is jealous beyond the words, and the authors justify that saying that the jealous character was possesed by the darkness.

I have seen a lot of good authors writing wise that mess it up by having all that kind of thing, and why? Just to prove the character they like is the best and such, getting the other characters aside except for a few others the authors may like. And when the rival is released from that posession he ends having a self-pity complex always dueling about what he or she did that caused his friends so much pain.

Also what about when the fics start with the rival couple dating and the guy who later will get the girl whinning and moaning about that she doesn't loves him and then the rival of the guy gets dumped by the girl because she realized she doesn't loves him like that. If I would get a dollar for each fic like that I have seen I would be millionaire by now :/

Is just that what's the sense of doing that? And it gets worse when in the fic the rival couple appears to have been dating for years and then they break up because the guy wasn't ready for a serious relationship. Come on, dating for years and he wasn't ready? Who believes that?

Why fics have to come up to this? it is unleash our imagination to write good fics; not use them as ammo for senseless couple wars.

And you can see this on any fandom, Digimon, Naruto, Pokemon, no fandom is saved of this kind of thing.

So give me your thoughts about this girls and guys.

You make very valid points. I have also been thinking about these sort of things when writing my fanfiction. Despite preferring one couple or pairing over another, I still often try to respect another one's opinion and i'd never try to make other characters i like look bad. Even if you support a couple, the other characters are needed to help the story as well.
